Cooking with frozen grated coconut
Fresh coconut is central to many Indian kitchens, especially along the Konkan and Malabar coasts: chutneys, curries, sweets like ladoos and modak, and drinks like solkadhi. But cracking and grating a coconut takes time, and freshly grated coconut spoils quickly. Frozen grated coconut is a practical alternative.
Storing
Keep frozen coconut in the freezer until you need it, and reseal the pack tightly to avoid freezer burn. Freshcon packs its shredded coconut “with care to ensure freshness and prevent freezer burn”, and labels each pack with storage and preparation instructions.
Thawing
Take out only what you need. Small amounts thaw quickly at room temperature or can go straight into hot dishes such as curries and stir-fries. For chutneys and sweets, let it thaw first so it blends evenly.
Using
Freshcon’s own summary is “Garnish | Bake | Grind | Cook”:
- Garnish: sprinkle over poha, upma, salads, yogurt or breakfast bowls.
- Bake: cakes, cookies and other bakes that call for coconut.
- Grind: chutneys and curry pastes.
- Cook: curries, sweets and stir-fried vegetables.
